Thistle oil

What could be more of a Scottish icon than purple thistles? Well, tartan and bagpipes, to be honest, but tartan soap can be a bit of a challenge. Seriously, in 1687, King James VII founded the Most Ancient Order of the Thistle. This group of knghts had a Latin motto, "Nemo me immune lacessit,", translated into Scots as ‘Wha daur meddle wi me? (Literally: no-one assails me with impunity.) The order’s emblem was a thistle. As for thistle oil, it’s from a yellow-flowered thistle look-alike species, sometimes called safflower, Carthamus tinctorius. An ancient crop, with records of cultivation right back to the time of the ancient Greeks, it’s full of essential fatty acids it is especially good for the care of oily skins.
